Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a Candidate?

Does it Hurt?

Most people do not have any pain during the surgery. You will be given topical anesthetics and a mild sedative is optional.

How long before I can see?

Depending on the procedure you may see immediate results; however, a realistic expectation and stable vision may take as much as 6-8 weeks.

How soon can I return to work?

A realistic expectation would be within three days of your procedure. Many return the next day.

Which procedure is best for me?

There is no way of knowing what your options will be until you have a complete exam. At West Virginia Laser Eye Center we offer a complete "no obligation" exam to determine if and what your options are.

Does Insurance pay for this?

At this time we are not aware of any. Some have in the past and some are considering adding this to the services they provide. Check with your provider before coming in and we will assist you with any billing needs.

Is the procedure performed in a sterile setting?

  • The Laser Suite staff wears caps, masks and gloves.
  • Patients wear hair and shoe covers, and are covered with drapes.
  • Laser room air is separately HEPA filtered and has separate humidity and
    temperature control.
  • Instruments are sterilized prior to each patient.
  • Microkeratome blades are not reused.
  • An Uninterruptible Power Supply ensures that no power outage will affect surgery.
